Why January & February Birth Dates Require Exact Lunar Conversion
A common error in generic online zodiac tables is assigning Chinese Zodiac animals strictly by the Gregorian calendar year (January 1 to December 31). In authentic East Asian metaphysics, the Zodiac year changes on Lunar New Year Day (which falls between January 21 and February 20). If you were born in January or early February before the Lunar New Year, your Zodiac animal and Heavenly Stem element belong to the preceding year.
The 60-Year Sexagenary Cycle (10 Heavenly Stems × 12 Earthly Branches)
Beyond the 12 animals (Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, Pig), each lunar year is governed by one of the 10 Heavenly Stems corresponding to the Five Elements—Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water—in alternating Yang and Yin polarity. Together, they form the 60-year Jia Zi cycle, explaining why a Fire Rat (1996) carries a very different energetic temperament from a Metal Rat (1960, 2020).
San He Trines (Three Harmonies) & Liu He Secret Allies
In classical compatibility analysis, the 12 Zodiac branches divide into four elemental affinity triangles (San He): Water (Monkey–Rat–Dragon), Wood (Pig–Rabbit–Goat), Fire (Tiger–Horse–Dog), and Metal (Snake–Rooster–Ox). Each animal also shares a magnetic six-harmony pair (Liu He) and a direct six-clash opposition (Liu Chong) located 180 degrees across the zodiac wheel.
